Cable freeze

In the middle of UFC fight night the service just freezes up, been waiting for months for this show... WTF and to keep raising the price on cable to get this type of service . What a rip off maybe direct TV is the answer !Evry time i comlpain nothing ever changes, no one ever contacs me, it's as if i don't count. If enough people leave your service maybe Cox will start to listen and change there creedy ways, it's been fifteen minutes now and the channel is still frozen, the fight must be over and i will have to read it on the net. Cox is *** .

Bad customer service inept technicians

I had cable installed yesterday the tech was an hour and half late. He finally arrived no im sorry no nothing then he stepped on my cat. He was a complete ***. After the install I didn't have the channels that were told to me that I would have in my package. I called today to see what I could get done about it. I was told I would have free installation and a free HD receiver and like 200+ channels. I only got about half of those channels. When I looked on my recent activity they not only charged me for the installation but also charged me for the box. I called customer service today to see what was going on and I told them I wanted what was told to me that I would have. They refused to do anything about it and get really nasty with me saying oh well its going to add this much more to my bill. I said no I want what was promised to me she refused and said there was nothing she could do. My advice to everyone out there run far way Cox is rude and they dont give a *** about customer retention.

Price was 50.00 more than offered, picture breaks up, and various channels can't be watched because of Tech difficulties.

My first issue with them, where I consider the 2000 loss, (NOT TO MENTION HOURS-DAYS, ON HOLD, DAYS WAITING FOR A REP TO COME WHILE UNABLE TO TAKE MY PAIN MEDS SO I WOULDN'T MISS HIM) for 3 years, I went through this situation, called several times and was told it was my box, they changed the box three times, but the problem never went away. I live with pain resulting from 20 years of working heavy manual labor trying to support 6 kids as a single mom, then I was hit by a SUV, while on the job, I have 3 damaged, bulging-herniated discs.

Two of those discs sit against 2 nerves traveling down my legs, the other causes a lot of pain in my neck, arms and hands. I can't even snap my own pants anymore. Night time is the worse, since I am only allowed a few pain killers each day so night is horrible. I had to throw out one TV because after 4 hours, whatever station I am watching...(which helps take my mind off the pain so I can drift in and out of sleep...it is the only sleep I get) burned on my display.

Plus, sometimes when my granddaughters come over, I set the channel to a cartoon station so when they wake up they can turn on the TV right to their station without having to wake me up, but starting 3 years ago each time they did, the station said, due to inactivity the station was no longer available. So nothing but a frozen screen. That FROZEN screen burnt that picture into my old wide screen TV and I had to throw it away, Cox denied anything to do with it claiming it was the box.

My TV would automatically start a screen saver if I forget to set the timer to go off, but NOT if the Cable Provider puts it's NOT AVAILABLE screen on! After 3 years of this ***, a worker finally admitted that Cox does this to save money, how dare they, I PAY FOR

Original review May 28, 2014
I am livid, my daughter and I spent 3 days telling Cox what we wanted, EXACTLY...we got a quote for 165.00. We insisted we did not want home phone, since we both have cell phones and I live on disability with chronic pain and other health problems and very limited income. They said if we went without the phone they would charge us more for the "internet and TV bundle" So, after installation, and 4 calls later because of lousy reception and my picture breaking up...and several stations I am paying for , at least twice a week, come up with signs that say service is interrupted, watch another station, (Also of the 250 channels we were promised, they DID NOT include cartoons for my grand-kids, but 50 channels of music, NOT told to us before. I have a stereo, WHY would I want 50 channels of music???!!! Anyway, somehow my 165.00 bill became 225.00!!! When I called with the advertisements right in front of me, for FREE HBO for 12 months, FREE DVR, AND a bundle for 50 less WITHOUT PHONE, they said I could not get it because I was no longer a NEW customer. So I told them my 30 day trial was up in 5 days, cancel my service, and they will not get one dime out of me, plus I'm contacting my State's Attorney General. When I had it before, I got a very good deal for 155.00 a month, when my 24 months were up, they shot up to 275.00!!! And told me, "Too bad!" I am on disability, live with chronic pain and various health problems, my monthly income is 899.00 a month, and they are horrible people running a horrible business. Also there new DVR, with remote, is confusing and very time consuming, if you are watching a series on Demand, after each show, you have to go back to beginning and go through whole series of choices to get back there. They were rude and offered no help. (Adding losses from the previous increase which eventually left me without TV, phone and internet for several months while being home-bound.)

New voice mail access

The time it takes to check a voice mail with your new voice mail access protocol is ridiculous. Who cares how long the message is? Who cares what number the caller was calling to leave you the voice mail? Surely your smart guys can figure out how to let people with little extra time get a voice mail without an automated person telling me how long the message is and what number the caller was calling to leave me the message. I'm 55 years old and have been having a difficult time figuring out why nobody wants a landline anymore. I think you show me why every time I have to check my voice mail with Cox. I recommend you have an access code that lets intelligent people bypass how long the message is and what number the caller was calling. I have many properties and operations that use Cox for their office and home telephones and voice mail. If something does not change, I wont be a Cox customer for long.

Exorbitant Price Increases out of sync with Quality of Product

My cable, phone and internet bill spiked from approximately 190.00 to over 250.00 per month. The company offered a small discount that only brought my bill down to $220.00. There are several features I am paying for that I don't want. However, the company will not let me unsubscribe only from those features. The cost for their product is outrageous and is not worth it. I would drop them like a hot potato but there are no competitors in my area. I filed a complaint with the BBB but they were unable to prompt the company to take further action. I urge all consumers to avoid doing business with this company if possible.

I totally agree. If I had another option for internet, I would drop their service tomorrow.

The basic channel selection is so bad, other than five or six commercial and public stations, all of the others are worthless. And, we pay for them.

I can set you up with Directv with no start up costs or hidden fees. Will give you every price, and make your cable bill go down by $30+ a month.

I'm an authorized Directv Retailer.

Email me if interested.

Cut the cord. Get an HD indoor antenna (there are online sites that will help you figure out what type will work best at your home).

Then go to Hulu Plus, Netflix, and Amazon Prime and see which ones have the programs or channels that you watch. Sign up for what you need and then drop Cox TV. You can get a Roku or AppleTV if you want to add that. You'll start saving money from the first month.

Get an IP phone like OOMA and you can also drop your Cox phone service.

You'll probably have to keep your Internet service from Cox, but that's it.

COX- molded or shaped to fit a particularly weak and high priced Contour.

Every time is see a COX Contour commercial I want to turn off my television. It's such a joke that they call this a device that you can customize your DVR. If I want to watch a show I recorded I have to be in whatever room I recorded it in. I naturally don't want to worry about that so, I had to set up every single TV with the same series set to record. I've only had COX for a month and several times now I've had glitches during a show and I cannot even fathom how ridiculous it is that I rarely had that problem with DISH, but I do with COX. If I want to rent a recent movie I have to go on a long elaborate search for the movie because their "On Demand" is not in fact very on demand at all. The recently released movies are not recently released movies at all. At the top of the list are movies like The Internship and The Heat which came out almost 6 months ago. Oldboy just came out but it's not on the new releases but COX does have it when I search it. When I have to search for a movie the search bar lags, making it very difficult to look up a show I desire. Also, the letters are very small on the screen making it very hard to see what letters I am even typing. The remote is so inconveniently laid out that I feel like I'm playing an instrument every time I pick it up. There is entirely too many buttons one controller. I will say that the light up button on the remote is pretty cool and I do use it all the time. The only reason I use it so frequently is because it's impossible to remember where in the world the annoyingly elaborate button layout will take my fingers if I don't use it. The #1 most annoying thing about COX's DVR is that the HD channels are not with the regular channels. WHO DOES THAT STILL?? And why is the icon for the show at the top of the screen?.. People don't scroll to read the abbreviations and they don't scroll to look up at the logo either. Once more, having the "original air date" on movies or episodes is a very simple thing to have and I've found other COX victims agree. I can't count how many times I have wondered when an episode/movie aired because it could be the original movie or the remake. I could be watching something on the Travel Channel about the best vacation spots in America and it's not even from the last 5 years. But COX doesn't provide me with this basic information and it is increasingly frustrating. The DVR's are huge eye sores. Its 2014 why are they that big? My boyfriend is a huge sports person and we had to order two packages to get his favorite soccer channel. Both packages come with channels we don't use. COX isn't customizable at all because one package doesn't come without ordering another. In order for me to get Showtime and HBO at a decent price I had to add a land line which I don't need. Their internet is great and I haven't had bad drop outs but I don't use the internet much so that's probably why. COX only offers two kinds of internet; fast or slow. There is no medium for the people that use it rarely but, want it fast when they do. COX's hours for their customer service in certain departments are a perfect reflection on how they could care less about the customer's needs. When I placed my order with Cox the representative was not helpful, very mono tone, and didn't try to give me the best deal for my dollar. My first bill was $245. I paid a installation fee to get the system placed in my home. But a weird thing just happened.... I just watched a commercial telling me I should have gotten FREE installation with the exact plan I currently have. Strange, because I had to pay a fee upwards of $70 to get our system installed. The best example of how behind COX is on the times is that they could not even install until a week after I ordered and every other company under the sun can do next day or at worst next 3 days. The technician who installed our system was right on time, which was another positive. Definitely the most accurate when it comes to arrival time estimations compared to some of their competitors. Wouldn't hang your hats on that positive though....Overall, I feel COX is way behind the much more advanced systems of DISH and ATT U-Verse. The prices are much too high for this below average system, customer service, and general service. Changes need to be made.....and soon!

Hi Escondido,

It sounds like you may have switched from the DISH version of Whole-Home DVR (WH-DVR) and installed Cox individual DVRs in each room. If so, I can understand the differences between the systems may take some getting used to!

If standalone DVRs aren’t meeting your needs, Cox also offers Contour WH-DVR that allows you to watch recorded programs on any DVR connected to your Whole Home network. The Contour on-screen guide is extremely customizable with multiple search capabilities so you can quickly find the shows you want, and these features may address some of the other frustrations you mentioned. The Contour app integration for iPad and Android tablets offers even more entertainment options, even allowing you to start watching a movie on your mobile device and then move it to the TV without having to start from the beginning! Get more info on Contour at http://ww2.cox.com/residential/tv/contour.cox.

I’m concerned that you’ve experienced multiple “glitches” since your install, and I’d like to make sure we get that resolved for you!

I am also happy to investigate why you weren’t able to take advantage of the campaign with the free install when we initially set up services. So that I can address both of these issues, please email my team at Cox.Help@cox.com. Be sure to include your full address so we can locate your account!

Also, the documentation found at http://bit.ly/CoxWelcomeKits may help you discover some of the other features you are looking for.

Sincerely,

Becky K.

Customer service sucks

I had to call cox back in April because they had messed up my billing. The supv in Omaha Nebraska advised me that there was a 20% discount on my account due to all the billing/service issues. Well that was never added on. I call today and the rep acts like I'm bothering him I advise on the 20% he offers me 15% from cable and 5.00 off internet so it's 16.83 my bill is $125.00 a month I advise that is not correct and he proceeds to say ugghhh god and tells me okay it's 20% from cable and 5.00 from internet and effective today. I advised no what about the following month he says again "god" in a pissy voice and says okay 20.00 off for last month and the 20% from cable and $5.00 from internet is that okay now. I advise "okay I guess" and ask him his name he says Julian I swear he said Juliet and he spells it out and said it makes a difference.....I swear someone needs to stop working there and learn some new skills or get a new job down in a freaking hole somewhere.
