COX Communications trashed my credit record with a bogus claim

In 2007 I moved out of Pensacola on orders from the Navy. All my bills with COX were set up to be paid automatically from my account but just to make sure, when I turned in my equipment I asked the clerk at the desk to confirm that everything was paid in full. She confirmed that I had no balance and I moved to my next duty station.

Now 5 years later, I'm trying to buy a house and suddenly COX sends a claim to a collections agency that I owed about $50. The agency reports it to the credit bureaus and overnight, my credit score drops 100 points. I call COX to try to resolve the false claim and they insist the only solution is that I have to pay them this money.

For $50 I would gladly avoid the whole situation and pay money I don't owe but to pay at this point is useless, the "late" payment remains on my report screwing up my credit for years to come. Way to go, COX screwing me over for $50.

If that isn't bad enough, at no point did they try to contact me. I'm pretty sure they had my email on file and I know they had my phone number (I've never changed my cell phone number). So I had no idea this false charge even existed until February 2012 when all the sudden it lands on my credit report.

They did this to me also....they claimed i never turned in my diital box when i moved and they hounded me about it and i told them i returned the box and i did....they sent a collection agent to my doorstep for the equipment....they insisted i didnt return it and billed me 500 dollars for it...this company does not keep accurate records andd for your safety i would suggest getting a reciept for everything and anything you get from these people....and those boxes cost no more than a 100 bucks and the bill you 500 for it

John N Mzy

They didn't contact you because it was such a small amount in the scheme of things and they have a limit on bills below a certain amount, etc. Called a "tolerance" amount.

They don't keep dunning you for it, but may send it to a collection company, who may also consider it too small. But, the "bad debt" is on your credit history anyway. At this point, no sense in paying it, as you suspect.

Explain the circumstances to the lender but it will still affect you, altho probably not as much as you think. Tell Chester Nimitz if you see him that I said Hi.

Change in format of easy listening channel

No history of the artist who wrote the songs. Very poor background with pop up commercials that are very distracting. You surely were not thinking about your dedicated customers when you changed your format to be like a commercial channel. I am at this time considering canceling Cox Cable for Direct TV if this is not changed back in the near future. I have spoke to many people that feel the same way I do. My wife and I are senior citizens and the easy listening channels was our life. We would appreciate you changing back to what you had, as we have never had a problem with your cable up until this point.

Cox telephone service...crashed 3 times in 2 weeks

I BEGGED my husband not to leave AT&T and go to Cox (their cable service STINKS and they could care less what channels are wanted/needed in an area - they lied to me twice about a station) Well, he switched to Cox and we have totally lost telephone service three times in less than two weeks. "We are sorry, we cannot find a solution to your problem" Well, I have found a solution - back to AT&T! It is apparent that all Cox cares about is establishing a customer base....which it then is unable to service. Oh, one of our Cox digital boxes crashed AGAIN. The replacement box did not work at all. The third one, works somewhat.

Cox Communications support SUCKS

I can't wait to see the day where another cable tv and cable internet provider will come to Las Vegas. I called their support because of intermittent internet outage. The tech, black woman, tried to give me the run around. I am a computer tech also. She said that their system was "detecting" that my router was a Linksys while it is in fact a D-Link. She tried to convincee me that there was a problem with my router. In other words, it is not an issue with their system picking up the wrong router, it is MY router that is a D-Link but somehow is not. When I said that it what she said didn't make ense, she tried to give me the run around with mac addres stuff. A complete ***. When she answered the phone, and I noticd the ebonics accent, I was going to hang up.... It is a fact that their black women are ignorant and arrogant. And don't try to pin the racist card on me. This doesn't apply to black men tchs. As amatter of fact I always received a good service from black men and men in general. Women suck at technical support. This one was nothing but arrogant and obnoxious, short fused, going with the "I 'm trying to help you SIIIIR" , as soon as I started to ask questions. I can't satnd this Cox anymore. Stay away from Cox.

Cox customer no service

Cox makes you have a bundle when you don't require a bundle. I have no use for a landline phone but I have to pay them more than $10 a month for a landline phone in order to have internet. Why does anyone have to pay more than $120 annual for a service you don't want or need? After being a customer for years and already using their internet, now I have to "buy" their modem. They are a crock. They are dumped and I will never use Cox again. they are a rip off. They know most people use their cell phones. Why do you have to have a landline?

After my bill increased AGAIN, I am dumping this poor excuse for a company. My husband has to have the internet, but going with maybe Dish or DirectTV for the tv-bills are ridiculous.

I've had internet for years without a landline. When they asked for my phone number, I gave them my cell number. :x

Cox Communications lie and trick you

Two men solicit cox services at our home a few months ago, we now know that these guys were "outside sales reps" who don't directly work for cox. They offered us an internet/cable package for approx.

$65 a month. We asked them specifically if the price would change and he said it was a set price. Well now 3 months later we find out that they lied to us and the was a 3 month promo of 50% off. So now for the same service we have to pay double the price.

We called to complain and after 15 minutes we get a stinking measly $20 temporary discount that will now expire in another few months at which time we are going to be stuck paying approx. $135 a month. Our next step was to visit the cox store and was basically told the same thing. There is no better deal that they can offer us.

No one seems to really care that we were flat out lied to and deceived. I feel that they should honor their promise to us and I think it's just horrible way to do business. After researching online I see others have has similar issues with cox.

It doesn't sound like to me that they really care about their customers. We are very very unhappy customers.

Six months into the Cox Cable Residential Price Lock Guarantee 24-Month Agreement the bill was increased by $30/month. A call to Cox Cable says the that special ended after 6 months. The PLG agreement states that if your rate included a promotional discount or the applicable period, the rate will revert back to PLG rate for the remainder of the term.

The web pages did not indicate that the special would end after 6 months. Today, the web page specifically states a rate for 12 months for a 2 year contract.

The termination fee is $240 (- $10/month) for a "Price Lock Guarantee with monthly discount" and $48 (- $2/month) for a PLG only. Cox maintains that since the PLG was accepted with a monthly discount, the $240 rate applies, not the $48 rate even though the monthly discount has expired.

Prior to signing an agreement with Cox, obtain in writing the monthly costs for every month of the agreement, the total cost, and have this signed by the representative.

Guest

Cox representatives are total liers. I called several years ago and wanted to reduce services, when my bundle approached 200$ per month.

They said they would provide credits and guaranteed a price lock. AFter one year we received a bill at 40$ higher per month. I called and they said the lock was only for basic services.

I told them I would cancel and they threatened me with suit. DO NOT DO BUSINESS with them!

Slowest Internet

We are paying Cox top dollar for "premium high speed" internet. I can't stream a single Netflix movie without it breaking up and pixillating. So much for trying to obtain things legally! Getting pages to resolve is also a ridiculously slow process. I have read many times that Cox actually delivers a fraction of the speed they promise and are a total ripoff. I don't even need to use their special, individual download speed check to determine that I'm not getting what I've paid for. Maybe Verizon will be better. In any case, I'm switching as soon as I can. Cox Sucks.

Try Century Link DSL and DirecTV bundle. I got the 10Meg service, and see 9.9 Megs all day, every day. No kore Netflix/streaming issues. Cox can't hold a candle to DirecTV in terms of quality, value, and support.

I tried both companies as a test. I got a live, professional ADULT on the line within seconds. And you could tell they are properly trained professionals. It sure beats those rude teenagers at Cox who like to yell at you at blame you for their problem.

I went to a Cox store this weekend to return their equipment. I showed the kid screenshots of Speed tests and diagnostics from Cox, wnd from my new provider. He gasped and asked "Who do you have THAT with?!?!" Cox must have their front line employees brainwashed into thinking they are the best or something.

I ordered 10 Meg DSL, and CONSISTENTLY see 9.9 Megs, even on sustained tests. Every web service works flawlessly. With my bundle, I save over $800 per year versus Cox, and actually get what I am paying for.

There is a 25 Meg option with DSL now.

Cox Communications jerks u around

Cox could care less about attracting new clients. I have been with them for 24 years and was about to convert my three business accounts to cox telephone (from verizon) but based on the service I received at my residence for television, No *** way. They cannot provide timely service, call center could not and demonstrated no desire to provide the answers to very elementary questions. My next call is to FIOS because Cox is their number one advertiser. I thought it was just a running joke about getting the cable guy out to your house. It is no joke!!!! and they are so cavalier about it....

Pay More Get Less!

The most expensive service, cable & internet, that I have had yet and I get fare less for my money. Had I had a choice, hope you do, I would have never subscribed to Cox.

This condo association insists on cable only and so I am screwed for now. Avoid Cox if you can. Bad reception, Bad DVR, Bad Prices, Bad internet speed, bad billing proceedures. My picture breaks up all the time and I am forced to reboot the DVR at times when the show I would like to watch is on.

The internet sservice way over priced for the speed you get and I don't get the speed they promised because of the age of my home? Just Bad Bad Bad!!!!

I'm Cutting My Service When My Husband Dies

My husband thinks he can survive without T.V., but the day he kicks the bucket (providing he goes first) I am cutting any and all association with Cox. I'll use the computer at the library, but a Smartphone, and never watch T.V. again. Their prices our outrageous and sneaky. One year we were paying $60 a month for mostly Spanish channels we can't use, and the next we were paying more than $80. We are on fixed incomes and can't afford this. Second, I went into the store today and a girl steps in front of me and asked if she can help me. I said "no" and as I walked to the back to pay my bill, she stopped me and said I had to sign in at the kiosk. This is something new and I was quite embarrassed. I gave her my name and was told to sit down and wait my turn. I've always waited my turn and I'm 53 years old. When the customer service clerk was done with a customer, I stepped up to the desk and was told again that it's not my turn. They want you to walk around the store and look at all of the pretty things while you wait. This is a marketing stradegy thought up by some *** computer geek. I wasn't called by the lady at the counter, I clerk in the store wanted to help me. I felt as if her were just trying to sell me something so I said "no." I didn't realize he could take my payment on any register. I do not see this as progress. I prefer to wait in line rather than try to figure out the new way of doing things. I resent that a bunch of young kids are correcting me and acting like I'm an *** for not knowing the "right" way to do things. They have us over a barrel now, but my happiest day will be when they can't embarrass me any longer because they no longer have my business.

I can completely understand what you are saying. Their prices are outrageous, but as the saying goes, 'what ever the market will bear.' The sad truth is, the market wants them.

Even sadder is that they have a monopoly for the area. There is no real competetion to keep their prices in check. DSL sucks. AT&T is not much better.

Satelite/dish is subject to the mercy of the elements. --- If it's any consolation, I did fire Cox once upon a time and my family did just fine without them for about four years. But that was before the internet became a staple in todays' homes. There is one other method of internet connection; get an 'air card' aka 'hot spot' that you can plug into the usb port of your computer.

You can buy just what you need if you're not on the computer much and control your costs that way. --- Stick to your guns. If more people stood on principle, businesses just might listen.

I'm willing to survive on feathers until the price of that chicken comes down. You know what I mean by that.

Good luck murdering your husband

Guest

How morbid of you. Poor husband...

You wonder why the staff told you to wait your turn, then you didn't wait your turn?

You don't get it do you. They told you not to do something, because id10ts do it, and you do it anyway.

Cox forum trolls - SCAM ALERT

No matter how you view it, forum trolling by 'Cox employees' "only trying to help" is a scam. First of all, I would never give an anonymous person on a forum any information about me. That includes something that seems as benign as an account number for cable, even if it's disconnected. Have you ever heard of identity theft? Can you think of other reasons why someone might want this information? I can. Secondly, and most importantly: Why doesn't Cox take care of their problems on their own web site? Or better yet: why don't these so-called 'Cox employees' answer their phones and help people? Why don't these 'Good Samaritans' take what they see in these forums to their leadership, and use it to get their leadership to overhaul their customer support? We can see in NUMEROUS forums dating back SEVERAL YEARS that Cox has a serious customer support problem. If Cox fixed this problem, you wouldn't have to waste time trolling forums pretending to want to help people LONG AFTER their patience has been obliterated by Cox's infamous disregard for customers. What's the real deal here, Cox? Do you think you're fooling people with this? Is this trolling some sort of last ditch effort to save face? Why not run a public forum on your own web site, Cox? A REAL forum, that shows the REAL DEAL???

Dumb employees OR thief employer?

I have internet from COX. - The first issue is that they tried to charge me twice for a modem that I bought already. - The second issue is that I put my payment as automatic detection and it went fine for the first 4 times. The sixth time I knew that I have to pay fees for late payment because one of the dumb employees entered my credit card information wrong and I spent 2 hours to fix it over the phone. So the question is: Why each times one of the customers made a mistake he has to pay a fee, and from the other side if any company made a mistake OR try to thief, all they have to pay is: "We apologize".

Cox Communications is horrible when it comes to caring

I recently lost everything I owned to a house fire and no renters insurance. They are making me pay for the equipment that was lost!!! I was told to submit a waiver form and 2 1/2 months later and many calls to them they ell me they don't waive equipments fees!!!!! They are now telling me that I have to pay more than double what my cable bill is until it is paid off in 6 months. I was told under all circumstances the customer is responsible for the equipment. What was I supposed to o, run into a burning building and unhook all of their equipment?

Cox Communications HD Scam

We bought our 1st HD tv in May of '11, right before my husband was to have life-saving surgery. I thought the new 60" tv would provide an outlet for him during recuperation I phoned Cox to come out and install an HD cable box. The tech installed a different box than our previous one, however, it had NO HDMI ports and he used the old RC cables. At the time, I was too consumed with my husband's health problems to have realized that the tech had not used the HDMI cables which came with our t.v. But, now, 6 months later, as my husband's medical problems seem to be receding, I phoned Cox to ask for a digital cable box that actually had the HDMI ports. Oh my GOD, I got such a run around from the 1st tech who told me that the HDMI cables are just a "scam" and that it does nothing to improve the picture quality. In a sweet, nice tone, I told him since we are paying for HD service and we have an HD tv and our own HDMI cables, we would still like the HDMI capable box. For the next 5 minutes, the tech tried every trick in Cox's scripting solutions to dissuade me from wanting the HDMI capable box. Finally, again, in a nice, sweet manner, I told him that we wanted the HDMI capable box. He said that he would have to transfer me. He transferred me to an irate, beligerent, 'tech", who argued with me after I told him that we've been paying for HD services but not receiving the HD quality. His response, in a raised voice, "YOU'VE HAD THIS SERVICE FOR 6 MONTHS AND YOU JUST NOTICED IT NOW???" Pointing at me as the problem! He continued, "If you want the HDMI capable box, YOU have to bring the old box down to your Cox store and exchange it yourself otherwise, there will be a $65 installation fee to have a tech come out and do it for you." I countered with, "Why should I have to do all of this when the tech should have done this in the initial installation?" Again, he LOUDLY argued with me, the whole thing was my fault. I hung up on him before I lost my temper and am looking at alternative providers. Cox has truly lost any respectability as a reputable company with this type of treatment toward a long-term, pay-on-time customer.

If it makes you feel any better, you were still receiving HD through the av cables you were using. The only real difference is the same HD signals are carried over a single cable instead of the 5 av cables. Other than that there is no difference in picture quality.

Guest

I am happy to report that after contacting the BBB, Cox Communications contacted me and resolved this matter by delivering the correct equipment, waiving the service charge and issuing an apology for the rude, incompetent customer service employee.
