No kidding. Shyster manager of West Side store told me I HAD to have a tech appointment when I wanted to transfer services to a new address...totally unnecessary, Cox just wanted to rack up charges; the connection was a simple self-registration one requiring NO INSTALLATION of any kind.

Even the tech who came out told me I could have handled it by myself. They also dinged me by switching me from a low-cost plan to a much more expensive one without informing me by word OR letter of the huge price difference......PLUS the $50 tech charge.... so when I got my outrageous bill today I called Cox, hung on "hold" forever, finally reached a halfway decent customer rep in accounts who thinks I may be off the hook since I am cancelling my service as of tomorrow within the "grace period" accorded new accounts. I dang well better.

These greedy and unscrupulous business practices put this company in the same class as used car salesmen and *** lawyers.

Yuck!!! Double yuck!!!!!

Cox Treating of Long Standing Clients

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
What bothers me about Cox, and other service providers, is when they have specials on internet, cable TV or telephone service, they don't bother calling their current "long term" and "outstanding clients" to see if they are interested in saving a few dollars. I pay $250 per month for all the services and had to call to find out what promotions are going on. I ended up getting more movie channels and paid less per month. Totally not valuing their clients or their clients dedication to Cox. Maybe more people should start switching and that will wake them up to passing on some of the rewards.

Cox Refused to Allow me to downgrade service.

On May 16, 2016 I had services installed. Internet, cable and Home security.

I did not want this security system. I was told the cameras were free, but no one gave me details as to what I was getting. On May 18th, I called and told cox I wanted to downgrade to internet and cable. I was told If I did that I would have to pay $585.00 and my bill would go up $67.00.

The terms and conditions state "I have 30 days to cancel. This is bad service and this is not right. I posted on facebook also and someone told me they would get in touch with me. That never happened.

Very disappointed with cox. Patricia Williams-Baton Rouge,LA 70808

dont record the conversation haha...unless u let them know its considered illegal

Call retention and accuse them of "stacking" you. This is when a sales rep lies to you and adds things you did not approve of or were not aware of in the first place.

Accuse them of lying anywhere they lied and record the telephone conversation. Ask to speak to the retention manager. If there is a 30 day, they will give it to you after attempting to give you credits and discounts. Go to the FCC website and report them for stacking.

The reports will add up and they will get in trouble.

Sign up for PPL pre paid legal services.

It's a lawyer on hand that can write a nasty letter for free for like $20 a month. Cox responds to lawyers and they know most consumers wont spend the money on one for an issue like this so they ***.

Cox Communications Customer Care Review from Pensacola, Florida

Absolutely the WORST customer service I've ever experienced. I called to check about outages in my area since my internet wasn't working. Got a guy who told me he couldn't help me and directed me to another number. While he explained this he had an accent and spoke way too fast so I politely asked him to slow down. He proceeded to speak so slow as if I was special needs. Completely disrespectful! When I called the number he directed me to, the other guy failed to try and understand my issue (which was a simple area outage) all I wanted to know was when it would be fixed. Then he told me he didn't have any answers and "it'll be fixed when it's fixed." Nobody presented professionalism or dedication to solving an issue.

Help seniors keep their cable TV and internet!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Many seniors living alone have only their TV and internet to keep them company but Cox is too greedy to help them keep their service when it comes to ...choosing between food, prescriptions, cable TV and or internet! Cox needs to do more for our seniors! Yet they give free or discounted internet to Snap or HUD families. How many of these families do you think are Americans and legal citizens?! Every few months they raise their prices. Their cheapest and lowest internet speed and cheapest cable TV lineup sucks! Internet slower than the old dial up speeds and cheapest TV offers very few watchable channels, just a bunch of nothing good channels.

I agree about giving seniors a cut. I have been with COX for over 18yrs and they keep upping the price every several months.

I am 65yrs old.

If I live to be 85 I will not be able to afford all these increases. COX should give seniors a cap on their fees, especially if they have been with them for so many years!

Digital boxes mandatory

They are telling me now I need to have a digital box for every television in my house. Of course they are happy to rent them to me. At $2.99 a month for five televisions, that's another $15 per month. I am really thinking about switching to another provider. They are always sending me junk in the mail trying to get me to upgrade, or subscribe to their phone service. I started out with basic TV and internet for $49 per month. Now I have upgraded those one level and pay $130 per month. So with these boxes they want to ram down our throats and I'm sure there will be more fees on top of those, so I will probably be over $150 a month for internet and TV. Such a rip off.

Call retention. Demand at least 30% off the price or you will cancel.

Retention will make cancellation saves in tiers. They will start by offering you cheaper packages on basic full rate pricing. Then they start to give discounts. The best they give is sometimes cheaper than new customer pricing.

The key word here is retention. They hope you wont call them and pay full price.

Cox Communications Tv Service Review

Terrible service, I would never recommend cox to anyone I know. Tv constantly froze, contour worked maybe 10% of the time if that, and the customer service they have is a joke. If I know anyone that is preparing to invest in cox I will do everything in my power to turn them away.

Dominion power was doing work on the power lines and cut my cable line. I contacted cox to repair my line. They told me no one has to been home because it's an outside line repair and said if any issues the tech would call my cell phone. When I got home the cable line was still on the ground and not hook up and I never received a phone call. I called cox and they told me that the tech didn't fix it because no one was home. When they TOLD me earlier that no one had to be home and if that was the case why didn't the tech call my phone. Just plain out lazy and nonprofessional. I will be looking else where for my services.

Cox Phones Out

WE noticed our phone was out. A number calling us showed on the TV screen, but we could not answer, nor could we call out, no dial tone, nothing, tried all of the "fixes" they have on their website, unplugging phones, only plugging one in, etc. Nothing. We had internet and TV just fine, but no phone. Their "online chat" session determined that we had signal for the numbers on the Screen but that our "modem" was out. We have never had a modem for phone and explained this to them. Last week, when this happened, I noticed Cox trucks all over the neighborhood, and two other neighborhoods in our areas. I spoke with one of their subcontractors, who said the house behind us had the same issue, and that there must be bad wiring in it. These guys were diligently checking all the wires on houses all over the place and could not correct the problems. Mind you this is THEIR OWN CONTRACTORS and their own people. Now, you'd think, with a set-up like they have, with the cable box outside splitting the signal into the phone line for the house, and Cable being out, this couldn't be a wide-spread problem like this, especially without their own people knowing about it. Well, they finally sent someone out to our house, who asked to see our modem. We explained we have never had a modem for telephone, that it comes from the Cox connection box on the back of the house. He disconnected our Cable TV (and hence internet) fiddled around, and determined we are getting no signal. THEN he says, well, we will have to rent or purchase a "digital cable to digital telephone" modem (remember our phone worked fine for YEARS without this) which needs to be connected inside the house with household power! One of the reasons we HAVE a landline phone such as this is that it works WITHOUT household power, or affecting our internet! (The box is a docsis 2.0 internet box, where they recently REQUIRED us, just a few months ago to get a docsis 3.0 internet modem!) So, going to obsolete technology on the internet to switch to "new" unproven technology on the telephone? No thanks. I told my wife, just cancel the service, we do not need or want "digital" telephone. What's even more interesting? THEY NEVER NOTIFIED ANY of their customers of this supposed change, and just suddenly cut it off, and millions of customers are apparently without phone service without switching back to a local telephone company!

Pros:
  • There is no competition
  • No resolution for multiple months
  • You are stuck with them
Cons:
  • Incredibly slow internet at times
  • Cutting off our phone with no notice
  • Raising our bill every month
Reason of review:
Phone is cut off, they wont' fix it.

Preferred solution: Please turn our ANALOG phone back on. We will have none of this "digitial modem telephone" crap. Our current phones have worked fine for years and we do not want this Internet Phone crap.

Cox Communication likes to rip off people

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I (unfortunately) was a customer of Cox for 20 years (I am ashamed to admit that) I have now moved out of California and closed my bill out. The person I closed my account out with said I did not owe them any money at all now I have a bill for an additional $86.40 for a telephone modem that I did not even order there is no telephone modem in the house I just left. When I ask for a copy of the work order or the completion form I was suppose to have signed they said I would have to go into a Cox store and get a copy because the "Customer Service" office could not give out that kind of information because they did not have access to it. What did they bill me from? And why did they wait until I moved out of state to bill me? They are great at raising there rates but when it comes to service what a joke. I would recommend sending smoke signals before I would recommend Cox Communications.

I agree!!! I'm glad someone is looking into them.

Unfortunatley my building is only wired to them, soon to be changed. They know they have you. If you ask for a reduction, like you I've been with them over 20 years, they put you on hold, look to see what other companies are there and see they are the only one. They charge for everything.

It's a monopoly and it needs to stop.

I can't wait till they finish wiring for other companies. And being HANDICAP would help, but nooooooo if they have to send a tech out I will be charged...I'm tired of fighting with them and supervisors.

Stay away from this company unless you want a hard credit inquiry on you (that really pissed me off) or you just want to give away money for *** internet service , or buy new routers and modems when they know *** well it's their *** service not your equipment or you want your monthly bill to increase once or twice a year " so they can provide better service for you". Don't freaking do it ! These people are absolute idiots!! I told them to disconnect service after the last increase and they made a *** poor attempt to keep me with some BS discount. I told them another firm was coming the following day and I will never deal with Cox ever. I have had Dish ever since and everything has been so worry free, it's like freaking magic, I just pay my bill and I get internet and TV with no problems.

BEWARE of Third Party Installers

I needed to have a new cable dug. After completion, the tech came to my door to ask if my services were working properly. He sat down next to me while checking the Internet Service on my Lap-Top. He then asked if I have other TV's throughout the house. When I grabbed the remote off my Master Bedroom's night stand, I then turned and he was standing there trapping me in the room. He started asking inappropriate questions and expressing his liking of me. I was in the house alone, which was 1 of his first questions. I escaped from the room without incident but TERRIFIED. I immediately called Cox and the Police. After several phone calls and hours of being on hold with Cox, speaking to 2 Supervisors, I was offered 1 month of free TV. WHAT A SLAP-IN-THE-FACE! I have been a loyal customer for 20+ years paying my bill on-time, every month. I will be changing providers.

If it was a Cox tech hire a lawyer and sue them for harassment. If it was a free lance tech find the company and sue both Cox and the free lance company.

Cox wont want the media they will settle out of court should your stress and anxiety be significant enough. Require Cox to assure you that tech is fired.

This issue wont go beyond that call center manager so make sure it goes to the top. Contact a local tv reporter.

Updated by user Apr 27, 2016

does cox corporate management even take the time to look at their customers reviews, or do they just let people linger and let their underlings deal with these complaints

Updated by user Apr 21, 2016

no it hasn't been resolved or even addressed or responded to by cox, I guess that's the way they conduct business and will probably lose a lot of customers

Updated by user Apr 07, 2016

why do you even have this site if the company in question "COX" doesn't even respond to you or your concerns

Updated by user Apr 02, 2016

still no response from cox, it least respond somehow, explaining if it practice to lure customers in and then increase their bill by $10 dollars a month or basically 25%. say something or tell me to go with another company who is more upfront with their customers

have had cox internet for a year, noticed my bill increased by 25% due to promotion expiring, I am renting a motum also. tried calling to get an answer as to why such a big jump in price, kept getting transferred 4 times no one could help.

loyalty dept said there was nothing they could do for me. I asked if I could buy the motum I am renting for $6.99 a month they said no it was coded as a rental. I would have to buy a new one. If I knew all this going in I probably would have went with century link or another company, this will probably be my last month with them.

Service is slow and computer is always acting up. Wont recommend them to no one, horrible customer service and deceptive business practices.
